Introduction

Every Effort, Inc. is honored to establish the Rickey "Slick" Atkins, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship reflects the essence of a man who was an everyday hero—someone who, despite his own challenges and without a formal college education, always believed in the transformative power of education and the simple yet impactful art of encouragement.

The Essence of the Scholarship

In alignment with Slick's values of being there for people when it counted, this fund aims to award at least 10 scholarships of $1,000 each year. These scholarships will benefit high school seniors who have previously been labeled "at-risk" but have shown a remarkable turn-around, exemplifying resilience and a strong desire to pursue higher education.

Eligibility

• Graduating high school seniors

• Previously considered "at-risk" but demonstrating significant personal growth and a commitment to academic achievement

• Plans to enroll in an accredited higher education institution
   

Scholarship Award

Each recipient will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to defray educational expenses like tuition, books, and living accommodations. Our goal is to grant at least 10 such awards annually.

How to Apply

• Complete the online application form available on our website when it opens

• Submit an essay outlining your personal journey, the challenges you've overcome, and your future aspirations

• Provide two letters of recommendation and a copy of your high school transcript

 

Selection Criteria

Our selection committee, informed by the fundamental principles of Every Effort, Inc., will evaluate candidates based on more than just grades. We'll be looking at your character, resilience, and your passion for seizing a better future for yourself.
